The sliders behaviour in newer and older Photoshop versions is different.

Let’s see how the sliders work in CC 2015 and above

Load a preset and Mask is applied once. Look the history. One application, one history state.
Point and click and Mask is applied once.
Drag the slider and Mask is applied once only when released the mouse.

In Photoshop CC and CC 2014, because of an Adobe bug it’s different.
Load a preset, Mask is correctly applied once.
Point and click, Mask is applied once.
But if drag the slider, Mask is applied continuously and this slows down the process an sucks a lot of application memory.

Resuming. With CC and CC 2014 DO NOT drag and release. Only point and click.
